Diane Sliwka, MD

Diane Sliwka is a physician Hospitalist at UCSF Health. She received her bachelor degree in Biology from Dartmouth College and her medical degree from University of Connecticut School of Medicine. She completed her Internal Medicine Residency at Maine Medical Center. She then spent 2 years as a clinician educator and hospitalist at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston where she completed the Rabkin Fellowship in Medical Education with an academic focus on simulation education. She is currently Professor of Clinical Medicine in the Division of Hospital Medicine and Department of Medicine at UCSF School of Medicine and maintains clinical, administrative and educational roles. She now serves as the Executive Medical Director for Patient Experience and the Chief Physician Experience Officer at UCSF Health. In her patient experience role, she is part of the UCSF Health Experience team, who support the organization to improve the experience of patients and families across UCSF Health. Her specific responsibilities are to engage physicians and other providers in this work. With a strong focus on communication skills for providers, she started and directs the UCSF Health Center for Enhancement of Communication in Healthcare, offering resources for communication skills to faculty physicians and Advanced Practice Providers. In her physician experience role, she leads the organization's efforts to measure the physician and AHP experience of work at UCSF Health and works collaboratively with leaders across the organization to improve the work experience from systemic and cultural perspectives.

In 2008, Diane founded the UCSF Bedside Hospitalist Procedure Service and developed a procedure teaching curriculum for 1st year Internal Medicine residents. From 2012 to 2017, Diane was the medical director for the Mt. Zion Medical Service, later transitioning to the Goldman Medicine Service, a direct care hospitalist service at Parnassus. Clinically, Diane spends time on the inpatient medical teaching wards and the direct care medicine service. In 2012, she took the lead in physician engagement for the patient and physician experience through the Living PRIDE campaign, later becoming the Medical Director for Patient and Provider Experience before assuming her current roles in 2017.
